Hello

Hi.

I am new to the world of CB/Ham radio

CB and ?Ham are rather different. For Ham (Amateur), you will need to pass an exam. For CB,
there are no tests.

I have not even invested in a radio yet questions

Should I buy secondhand if so from where is the best place?

Is Ebay.com really a good idea?

I would be careful of EBay, many people really do over-price things. They know that someone new
to CB will come along and, having no idea of the real value, pay that silly price. Sometimes it
can be cheaper to buy new.

First of all, take a look at some shop prices, even if through Internet CB shops, so you know
the real prices of new equipment.

Could you tell me is AM or FM the legal freq in the UK and Ireland
and if so which most active used nowadays?

Republic of or Northern?

In the UK, there are two bands that are legal for CB use. We have our own band of 40, plus the
standard European 40. In the ROI, the UK 40 is not allowed.
Both UK and ROI allow FM.
UK does NOT allow AM or SSB, but I am unsure of ROI.

In the UK, CB use is patchy. Where it is used, our UK specific channels are usually the most
popular. However, our most popular radios are probably the 80 channel models, so most people
will have both bands.

Whats the best kit to buy what President Lincoln Radio by Uniden like?

Rather illegal for CB use, they only get into the UK because they are marketed as "Amateur"
equipment.

For more info about CB in the UK, check out my Web site:

Peter.
