Though I can agree with you that placing the CB service at 27 MHz for what the service was intended, was a big mistake. The inablility to control a band gone out of control from the early 70's has resulted in a band that is essentially unenforced. WHat enforcement is now done is in direct response to complaints from individuals to the FCC or to individual's Congressman. I have known of instances where COngressional representatives have sat on the House Telecommunications commitee and have received complaints from voters about interference from CB operators. The problems were corrected. Also the FCC did shut down four operators in the West Palm beach area about 10 yrs ago and they were never heard on the air again. Seems that they lived in the flight path to Palm Beach International Airport approach. Harmmonics from their station operation were interfering with radio communications between planes and tower. The FAA and the FCC did not take kindly to that. Yes in rare incidents the FCC will enforce the regualtions. In most part they are so understaffed that enforcement for all the frequencies that they are required to is just not possible. I guess in a weird way, you could say the FCC does not exist. james |
