i've mates in cardiff, bude (cornwall), southampton & oldham and the
prices they paid aren't THAT bad but still steep. the taxes here are f

Cardiff is in Wales and is quite a cheap place to live to be honest. and
Bude is a holiday resort and oldham is a bit like your bronx ;o)
Not sure about Southampton i think its somewhere inbetween. I lived near
Swansea a few years back and that was just up the road from Cardiff. The
house we bought there was massive in comparison to a lot of UK houses, it
had a huge garden and a garage at the top that more resembled a bungalow,
with hot and cold running water and inspection pit. It was half the price of
houses in Birmingham UK as there arent many skilled jobs there.
I know of course it depends where you buy to the prices.... The image also
is Americans all live in big houses with well paid jobs and have huge
gardens and gas guzzling flash motors whereas we all live in a little house
and catch the bus and its always raining
I blame Hollywood for that ;o)

pretty close to the hollywood idea graham. except for the well paid jobs
that is.
you are a brit and you dont know where soto is? oh my.
i've seen your posts on the uk cb ng from work but for some reason my ng
reader wont let me respond from home. i was one of the original
petitioners to get the uk.rec.radio ng going. it has little traffic on it.

Yes that newsgroup has been abandoned by many now due to the previously
mentioned amateur snobbery bantered about by "just a few" lamebrain no mate
no hopers who delighted in belittling people. A lot have moved on to Yahoo
chat forums but occasionally the group uk.rec.radio.cb comes to life and has
its moments... I still use it although this week has seen no posts at all
apart from mine asking for rig doctors for my cb pages. ...I know where
Southampton is.. i meant ive never been there so i couldnt comment.. I
commented on Cardiff and Oldham and Bude because ive actually been there a
few times so know just a little about those places. Oldham like Leicester
seems to be a dumping ground for undesirables and Asian asylum seekers...
and quite a lot of the indiginous locals hate it and theres lots of racism
about.. but it comes from both sides. Some areas a white person wouldnt be
able to walk down a street safely but i suppose every country has its places
like that. The average persons wage in the uk where i live is about 12K a
year. In london it can be 3 times that or more if its a highly qualified
professional job.
I think the idea of America and well paid jobs comes from the idea that your
houses and ground they are on are so big and the cars you drive.. i can only
go on what ive seen on TV and been told by a few friends who have been
there. That might be the same for the UK in many countrys eyes thats why we
get so many asylum seekers heading to our shores. The idea that theres a far
better life waiting for them here. Thats true but they expect so much and
when its only a little better for a lot of them... anyway i wont go on about
that, thats another arguement ;o)
I dont know if youve ever visited my website but there seems to be more
action on there than the UK newsgroup.. lol..
Take care,
Graham

That's funny. You managed to actually make the thug alter his outside

magnifies peoples' idiocy, as he shows.

3.78 litres per US gallon.

Dont you tell me theres something smaller in the US than the UK....normally
everything in the US is bigger ;op
Funny how amounts change but the same units are used.... crazy world

If its an imperial gallon then it may be what magnum claimed.

1 US Gallon = 3.785 Liters.
1 imp Gallon = 4.545785 Litres.
1 imp Gallon = 1.201 US Gallon

either way the boys in euro pay a boatload more than we do.

At £1 per Litre, we are paying £4.54 per imp Gallon, about £3.78 per US Gallon.

I am not sure of the present rate, but taking Graham's figure...

1 GBP = 1.84189 USD 1 USD = 0.542920 GBP

I make that around $6.96 per US Gallon.

Regards,

Peter.
