okay, here's the scoop... I guess I may need that dipole after all :-D

(In short, I need a dipole.....)

I tend to run before I walk, or put rather simply, tend to make bad
purchases sometimes. Anyway, it looks highly probable that I won't
even get to erect my Imax 2000 due to bylaws that I failed to look up
regarding antennas at my town home. In a nutshell, I'm asking for
permission, but expect a big fat, "NO!"

So, I need a dipole...and just realized that I could put one in my
garage. It should all work out very nicely in there. As a matter of
fact, I will be running the coax from the garage to my living room
shack, but only while the wife is away.

Can you lead me to the best dipole money can buy? Due to the morse
code going away, I think it best to get an antenna tuner for 10 meter
when I get the privileges (and only then), but will focus right now on
a CB dipole, for skip.

I see that Workman makes one.

And this guy makes one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...keTra ck=true

In addition, there is the double bazooka, which I've heard some
negative things about.

Is there anything else? I just want to buy a well-constructed one and
get it over with.

Thanks once again for your infinite wisdom, usenet!

Any dipole is the best one money can buy. Any will work whether it's a homemade
or store bought. You will still have to erect it and trim it, regardless.

No antennas or no towers? Can you bolt the Imax to the peak of your house
and be OK? Can you tell them it's a TV antenna? Do they provide you with
free cable television? If you are a ham can you erect an antenna? Can you
tell them it's a homeland security thing and you are doing your part :)

If you have trees a homebrew dipole works wonders, the higher the better.
You stated before it could be difficult for you due to injuries? You will
need to pick the feedling out from the dipole so enlisting the help of a
friend may be a good thing.

The Imax is not ugly, it would not look bad on the side of the house, it's
white and pretty thin, If done tastefully no one should complain. I have
mine on a push up behind and away from the house secured to an outbuilding,
it is not readily noticeable, although, my property does have mature trees.
Some even put imaxes IN trees.

It's pretty ****ty that you can't put up a simple antenna, I wonder if they
knew that it was not a big honkin beam if it would make a difference. A
beam would not fly with my wife, she has no problem with the Imax!

I'm learning now that it is pretty common practice for people living
in association areas (town homes and condos), that installing anything
other than a small dish, is usually unacceptable.

I lived in an association for 5 years, and you are right. It would not go with
the area, and people would not allow it. The dipole in the peak of the attic
would work well. Or, it you have a mature tree, you can hang a dipole vertcally
and almost go unoticed, with the exception of the feedline being present. That
would require some trenching or digging.

It seems unfair i agree but it is down in the rules of lease that you signed
when you took over the building (not you personally, any housing association
member) We have one in Bournville, Birmingham and the rules are so strict
its crazy. You cant even have a small dish unless its in the kitchen. But
they signed the paperwork so they should have known what they were entitled
to do before moving in. No good complaining afterwards. Move to a house in
the country, get a stonking huge tower and massive element beam and push
that kilowatt.... :o)

How the hell do you watch TV if you don't want to pay for cable or have some
sort of problem with the cable provider?

That's bull****! I'm not on anyone's case here, just a rant. But for
christ's sake, a 20 some-odd foot chunk of white fiberglass, less than an
inch thick ain't going to ruin the resale value of the neighbor's home.

I will never, I repeat NEVER move into an area where my house has to look so
much like the neighbors house that I can't even add a damn Imax without a
pole. I see safety issues with unsupported towers, but an antenna bolted to
wood, a satellite dish? Come on, where the hell is this, stepford?

Un-F-ing real, America my ass, can't even put an antenna on something you
OWN, that's.... bull****. Where is this country going?

That is not entirely true. I lived in a condo that I owned from 1993-1999. While
you own it, you own the building that you live in. The land is owned by everyone
in the community. If you have a townhouse, then you migh have a small back yard
you own, but there are rules there too.

But you are making more of it that it really needs to be. And no, they are not
"fascist" as clueless Frank leads you to believe. The fact of the matter is, you
buy into a community, with a set of rules. There are there prior to any
purchase. And new rules added or modified after purchase must be approved by a
community vote. Everyone that goes into buying one of these know damn well what
is required. In fact, it is a law that the by-laws of the community be given to
you at closing. If you didn't know about this before hand, than you didn't do
your homework, or you had a ****ty lawyer.

It's really simple. If you want to go hang an antenna, or put up a tower, then
simply go buy a house. And watch what you buy there, too. Some newer development
also have rules for houses. The bottom line is, you are in control prior to your
purchase. If you don't like the rules, don't buy one.

FYI, I was on the condo board for about 2 years while I was there. DirectTV and
DISH were starting to come out. As a board, the state law required that we must
allow satellite dishes, however we could limit their placement. So what we did
was approve a rule that allowed dishes to be hung on posts in the ground. They
could not be attached to the structure or roof. If you were on the wrong side of
the view, you were **** out of luck. We did this because the hack installers
would put them on any roof and side of the building. This would maintian the
quality of the looks of the complex, and hold up the property values, which was
key. By the time I sold the condo, several dishes were being put up on wooden
posts, with no complaints.

Had I had a CB I wanted to install, I would have gone the "dipole in the attic"
route. That would be perfectly legal and within the rules, and there isn't a
damn thing anyone in the community could do about it. If he did that 1 month ago
when he first asked, he would have been on the air already. Instead, he had gone
round and round about numerous antennas, and now he wants to co-phase 4 dipoles.

That's a pretty cool story :-)... I love hearing those good stories
about Cbing, which reminds me of my first shack. I ran a Cobra 19
plus and a very small power supply I bought off a guy for $15 or
$20...the kicker was the antenna! I ran a 102" fiberglass whip and
that Cobra 19 plus. Boy, was I having the time of my life, back in
the mid-late 80's. This 102" whip was hung on my chimney with a
chimney mounting bracket. Not exactly a base antenna like your
friend's, but an antenna that I could talk/receive 10 or 12 miles with
nonetheless!

especially since I don't work.

let me get this right, you bought a place but have no job? inheritance
or legal proceeds?

I am disabled and married... maybe you're just now tuning in...

Those jackass's don't read rrcb, they only cross-post to it. Is it a
coincidence that it's them same jackass's that flame CBer's at every
opportunity? I think not.

There are -really- cool ham radio operators that read rrcb and never post
to it, also. (they email me)

rrcb has had fewer flames recently, than it's had in recent memory...cept
for the hams cross-posting to it.

They can't give up their roots.

he better get cable or some kind of way to watch tv, cause all the
stations will be digital in a few years.

How the hell do you watch TV if you don't want to pay for cable or have

That's bull****! I'm not on anyone's case here, just a rant. But for
christ's sake, a 20 some-odd foot chunk of white fiberglass, less than an
inch thick ain't going to ruin the resale value of the neighbor's home.

I will never, I repeat NEVER move into an area where my house has to look

so
much like the neighbors house that I can't even add a damn Imax without a
pole. I see safety issues with unsupported towers, but an antenna bolted

to
wood, a satellite dish? Come on, where the hell is this, stepford?

Un-F-ing real, America my ass, can't even put an antenna on something you
OWN, that's.... bull****. Where is this country going?

Chad

Unfortunately Chad its in UK and US as well as quite a few other countries,
some big landlords are so ignorant and all powerful they dont even want you
to decorate the houses without clearing it with them first. Personally i
wouldnt want to move into an area like that either.... but people do and
they sign too quickly without taking into account the restrictions, or like
many, they just think "no one will bother if i stick up a small outside
aerial" but they do... boy do they...
