Hmmm. Maybe the LED warning signal logic can be applied to a remote
antenna switch to provide isolation from the antenna? The the above
sensing for near by static discharges, it can hold the antenna isolated
from the last discharge plus delta minutes before re-engaging the
antenna system for normal usage. Just a thought.

Yes, but to 'isolate' you need at least a coule of meters in my experience.
A coax relay won't do ...I have seen lightning flash over electrical wiring
in a room.

So maybe explosive charges that blow piece of the coax away.... ;-)

Dunno, I just get up, go outside, just above the door is the coupling piece in
coax, turn it lose, one end of the coax throw it in the garden, the other end
the same the other way.. that is what I do.
Takes 5 minutes.

If lightning then hits the antenna it follows the coax into the ground.

I can normally tell when i see a flash in the distance followed a short
time later by a rumble in the distance.... bit of an early warning there
too :oP

Don't shave the back of your neck, those hairs double as an early warning
system...right before your asshole puckers.

Then you get thrown over the bed of your truck, hit the ground and take
off running like hell. It's not till after you smell the burning flesh
and notice the blood coming from under you fingernails do you put 2 and
2 together.

At this point you muster the courage to drive to the emergency room,
half drunk still, and they hook you to an EKG machine to "monitor" you.
It's just a cruel game because they made the wires about 12" too short
to make it to the bathroom to take a ****.

Yeah, that was no fun, turned my beard gray too!

Dang, that one really left a mark on you!

But in the grand scheme of things, it was a really a learning experience.
You can prolly find well water with your leg now...hehe

Yep, I learned that even though the storm is "gone" you can still get your
ass handed to you!

In retrospect, I made it out fine, messed with my short term memory for a
while but I worked around it. Makes a great "hold my beer and listen to
this" story :) The damn dog was out there with me and now I have a
Rottweiler herding me inside at the faintest sound of thunder or a group of
Harleys driving by on the highway. AND to add insult to injury I had a
truck load of rental audio equipment that I had to fix since I was the local
pro audio repair guy!
