wrote in : snip And here's something you may or may not have known: every RF emitter has an RF "fingerprint" that can be used to identify it as a specific type, make, model, and sometimes even an individual unit. All this info can be automatically processed, categorized, and filed into an electronic database. No paperwork required. That's what -can- be done. The only question is if the NSA (or other secret government agency) -is- doing it. History teaches us that when the general public realizes what can be done, the government is usually two steps ahead in its development. I think the amount of amps in circulation would create to much work from an understaffed agency that has more important fish to fry. But all that is conjecture on my part. I do realize that it is possible, but unlikely. In the past half-century there have been many revelations about the activities of secret government agencies and organizations. Much of what they have done under the cloak of secrecy was what most people considered to be "unlikely". Don't you remember those assassination hearings? Scary ****. snip The Fourth Amendment is but one of the casualties of the Wars on Drugs and Terrorism. 9/11 changed a lot of things. Unfortunately until they put the military on the boarder the war on drugs and terrorism will never be won. The war on drugs will never be won as long as we live in a society where drugs, legal or not, are part of mainstream culture. The war on terrorism will never be won because it is a war against an abstract concept. And 9/11 indeed changed many things, not the least of which is how politicians make excuses for criminally negligent stewardship of the Constitution. snip You implied that I used freeband for emergancies which I never stated. You stated that you use an amp when you get stuck. You also stated that such use is a "responsible" violation of the law. Then let me make a clairification. I will do whatever I have to do to get help, or save my or even your life. If that means breaking the law, I have no problem with it. Unexpected situations do arise. But when you go 'mudding' then you have a reasonable expectation of finding yourself in an emergency situation. If you do not take reasonable measures to prepare for such a situation -before- you go mudding then you have no justification for violating the law. And that, too, is the law. Rosa Parks broke the law, was that responsible? I think it depends on who you ask and how you ask it. Right. And Ghandi was a freebander. Sure. And this is a direct quote "And if you are in a canyon or deep valley, it doesn't matter how much power you run, there's nothing you can do on radio unless you have VLF or satellite." This is not true (at the time) as I have used 100 watts on channel 10 and got help when my cell phone failed to operate in the same area. You got lucky, that's all. CB radio propagation is generally LOS, just like cell phones. If you are planning to go to an area where you will be taking some risks, hoping for residual ground-waves from big watts on the CB is neither a reliable or responsible means of communication, ESPECIALLY when there are much better alternatives. For example, I'm going into the Bitterroots this summer. I'll have my CB for sure, but there's no way in hell I'd go deep without a sat-phone. Sure, it may cost a few bucks to rent. But if I roll the truck down a slope, get jousted by a horny moose, or my appendix decides it wants a divorce, I'm sure I'll feel that it was money well spent. And I happen to know for a fact that CB antennas don't often survive a rollover. So make all the excuses you want; I'll plan -my- trips intelligently and responsibly. You cannot forsee every incident in advance. I do what I can to plan for those I can forsee. I took my cell phone. It did not work. I used my CB. No response. I kicked on the amp. Help was on the way. You claimed that you were not talking about an emergency situation. IIRC, you said that you only had to walk a few miles for help. So your violation of the law was for the sake of personal convenience, not because it was an emergency. You think that's being "responsible"? Or do you wanto to try the Rosa Parks excuse again and claim that she was just too lazy to walk to the back of the bus? snip It sounded to me like you were defending him. I am a Juggalo and will not tolerate the message that he posted. I'll defend his right to free speech, but that doesn't mean I agree with anything he says. On the contrary, the post was so blatantly inflammatory I seriously doubt the person was even a racist; more likely it was just some moron that doesn't know how to use his spare time constructively. But regardless of the source or the reason, the post pushed your buttons as it was clearly intended to do. IOW, maybe you should pay more attention to the thickness of a person's skin instead of its color. As a Juggalo it is my duty to do what I can to help stop the spread of racism. We all have to live on the same planet and it does nobody any good to judge a person by his race. In case you hadn't noticed, your campaign against racists is no different than the AKC denouncing illegal CBers. You can take all your responses on the latter subject and apply it to the defense of racists. And here's something else to chew on: it's not illegal to be a racist. Racism isn't a disease. It's an abstract concept, just like terrorism. The fact is that racism will exist as long as there are differences that can be distinguished. If you don't like it, great! But since you can't eliminate the problem, you should learn the best way to deal with it. snip My response was to let him know that not all people that are fair skinned agree with his way of thinking. Of that I'm sure he already knows. He didn't until I replied. Is that how you rationalize your own prejudice? What you are suggesting is that this person has never attended school, never watched television, never socialized with people beyond his close circle of racist friends and family, etc. That's either totally naive or totally ignorant -- take your pick. If he wants to repond to my response so much the better as I will argue my point on this issue till the cows come home. Just as long as you don't argue until the Cubs win the World Series. LOL Haven't you learned yet that the best way to silence a troll is to ignore him? And sometimes they go away after they have been burned. Get real. They don't go away until either they get tired of playing the game or are forced to find a job. Doug was forced to find a job and he is still here. But you are correct, they won't leave till they are ready. It was easier on IRC as I would just boot his ass out of the room or use any number of nasty DOS attacks to take the spirit out of him. "DOS attacks"? Denial of service attacks. They were all the rage on IRC. Splitting servers to take channels, flooding people with eggdrops, ect.... Yeah, I know, bad DrDeath. You -still- don't get it, do you? Let the moron speak! Let him get comfortable. Let him publically voice his warped ideas and values and give him the opportunity to trip over his own ignorance. What better way to attack racism than to let them admonish themselves? At the very least, you can draw him far enough into the social arena to encourage him to think about some -constructive- things to do with his time, which is something you can't do by lowering yourself to his level and calling him names. There are many other reasons, but instead of making this post ridiculously long I'll just submit my proof: Usenet. snip Dr. Douche, Dr.Dumbass, Dr.Dork....ect....I can think of lots of insults for my screen nic. As can I. Ever wonder why I never used any of them until I addressed that specific topic? Not really. I just used the nad thing as it seemed in vogue. I actualy prefer not to do a bunch of name calling with people that can actualy hold a conversation as it makes me look desparate for material. I do however enjoy name calling with idiots like Doug and Markie-tard as they are unequiped to converse with me. The enigma remains: why bother to "converse" with them at all? snip You reply to a -lot- of really stupid ****. What's your point? It's winter and work is slow. As the weather increases you will see my posts dwindle to almost nothing untill fall. I can hardly wait. Be honest, while you may not like me, you enjoy playing this game as much as I do. Enjoy? Not really. Wordsmithing is only one of several things I do to keep my mind from getting dull. I used to enjoy trolling for voodoo techs and political propagandists, but it seems they all left. I'm sure things will pick up later in the year when the '06 election campaigns kick into overdrive. snip I understand now. But when you stated it last year I took it in the literal sense that I was in your killfile list. The effect is the same. The rest doesn't matter and I really didn't care if you understood or not. If that makes me a liar then so be it. You did care, you stated if I did not understand it gave you validation. Sounds like you care to me. And yes it makes you a liar, so be it. But I only lie "responsibly" (jeez, you walked into that one like a blind man in a cave!!!) snip .....I'm not going to Google every post I have made as I don't have THAT much free time. Google says different. I am not holding a grudge, but I cannot change someones belief system. So let me make this statement, I do not hate you, hold a grudge or wish you harm. Well then you better review your posting history cause if what you say is true then someone is forging posts under your nic. Point me to where I have ever stated that I wished you harm or hate you. Pick any post in the past few months where you refer to me with contempt. There have been quite a few. And yes, I have been forged, but those that know me can tell the differance. Well, guess what? I don't know you. And while I am one of the most obnoxious people in this group, I have rarely been forged. Can you guess why? snip Why would I want to read a bunch of military arguement that I can't respond to as I have never been in the military. What does that have to do with it? Must be too complicated for you to understand then. Not complicated at all. You don't need to own an orchard to talk about apples. And before you accuse me of being a coward and not serving my country, let's just address that now. I wanted to join the Marines but was denied due to my lack of formal education. I only finished the 7th grade, vietnam just ended and the Marines were being picky. I did serve my country by guarding the worst of the worst, killers rapists, ect... I really don't care if you served or not. Those are issues that -you- have to live with, not me. Robeson was impersonating a Marine, and that's a different ball of wax. I wouldn't know, as I stated earlier that I marked the thread as read. My point was that if you think I would condemn you for being a coward because you never served in the military then you need to re-read the parts of this thread that addressed ASSUMPTIONS. |
