SBE Console II

Back in the 70's my brother and I were into CB, I had an SBE Console
II (2) at that time it was a 23 channel radio. Life went on and I
sold out and never got back into it, this was before the 40 channel
radios came out. Talking to my brother the other day we got into a
debate about how SBE came out with a Console II (2) with 40 channels.

Can anyone confirm that SBE did indeed have a console II with 40
channels. Did it have PLL or crystals (if PLL what chip?)
Thanks
Buzz

I don't know that they made a 40 channel version, but most I saw had one of
several compatible brands of VFO attached. One thing about it though, those
were very well made radios with great audio.

SBE Console II

Around the time of the switch to 40 channels purchasers of SBE Consol II's
could ship their radio back to the factory for a 40 channel upgrade free of
charge. I never saw a new Consol II 40 channel out of the factory for retail
sale. I had a twenty-three channel version but didn't do the upgrade. Was a
nice radio for it's day, receiver had some issues with adjacent channel
rejection otherwise it was a great base radio. I was into Browning at the
time an just purchased a Mark IV.

Hello,

I'm an owner of a SBE Console V. This was SBE's answer to the addition
of channels 24-40. Unfortunately, this rig was fairly expensive
$450-$600 range and wasn't as friendly to modification as it's peer
group of radios.
This is a sharp looking rig even for todays standards and a decent
performer.

SBE Console II

If I'm not mistaken the Console V was one of the last radios with the
modified 02A chip for 40 channel coverage. It was based on a SBE mobile
placed into a rather lavish wood cabinet with additional controls. Many of
the SBE radios were based on Raytheon chassis.

Thanks for the info guys, when I had mine almost 30 years ago, I had
no complaints with at all, always had good audio reports with it.
