SSTV and WEFAX
 

Was trying to monitor SSTV with JVCOMM program hooked, via a
rigblaster, to an old pentium computer....about 8 yrs old using Windows
98. Received images were slanted so I asked one of the folks on the
band what was going on.

He said that you MUST use Windows XP operating system and IRFanview to
look at pix transmitted via SSTV.

This makes no sense. The transmitted picture is just a string of bits.
the Image doesn't know what I'm using. So any program set up for SSTV
should work.

Anyone any suggestions?

I am also using TRUETTY and SeatTTY to monitor wefax but, after
receiving 1 perfect image the rest have been slanted as well. Any
ideas?

Slanted pictures means there is a slight mismatch in the sound card,
or dedicated hardware, sampling rates. I am not familiar with the
program you are using, but look for some information on calibration,
sample rate, or possibly alignment. Once you tweak that, you should
be fine. WEFAX transmissions are usually good, and experienced SSTV
users quickly get their equipment adjusted.

I agree, it is probably an adjustment to the program due to the sampling
rates of your sound card.

Go here and look for MMSSTV, a free program the will let you use the sound
card to do sstv. Nowhere near the problems the eariler programs had with
getting good images.

Thanks all.

I use Mscan Meteo, this program has an option to adjust the last
received image by clicking on the opposite corners of the graphic, then
calculating the adjustment.

Read the Help File Appendix section, it has two items regrading slant
correction. This is all you need do to correct the slant you are getting in
your pictures. I have used the Slant correction procedure using a time signal
with success. Read both sections in the appendix and you should be good to
go. I might also add that I have used the program under Win98, Me and WinXP
and never had a problem correcting the slant in the pictures.
