Greetings
Yes, I still have my old pre-286 computer... I was on packet radio using my then quite acceptable pre-286 computer... however when I got my present pentium 100 I retired my pre-286....I also retired from packet... a move a currently regret... Anyways I retired about a year and a half ago and one of my retirement wants was to get back onto packet.... Recently I have heard that packet is not what it used to be.... but be that as it may... Today I finally got my old pre-286 computer out of the closet and connected up my old monitor... got found the old keyboard and connected the three together... I connected the keyboard in.... turned on the monitor and turned on the computer.... As the computer went through it's various diagnostics I began to feel better and better... However... I have either forgotten something or something is wrong.. and this is why I am sending this message... The cursor appears on a line by itself... I have either forgotten too much or something is wrong... After pacing around trying to remember what I used to do next, I typed in dir: the computer came back syntax error.... more thinking and I typed in dir c: (enter) again the computer came back syntax error.... am I doing something wrong or is there a problem that time has given me?.... Hi Larry, You might have ended up in ROM BASIC mode, which means that there was no operating system found when You booted up the computer. Try putting the DOS floppy disk (360kB) to the floppy drive A: and boot again. Greetings from ****a, Italy Gianpiero |
