VI6ANZAC Special Event Station

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the departure of the first convoy
of ships carrying Australian and New Zealand (ANZAC) soldiers to Gallipoli
and the Western Front in World War I (WWI) and the significant role played
by Albany, a small town on the south west corner of Western Australia, in
Australias ANZAC history (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_spirit),
a number of commemorative events will be taking place in Albany Western
Australia from the 31 October to 2 November 2014.

Albany Western Australia was the last place that many soldiers saw
Australian soil.

The ANZAC spirit and legend is well documented in the national Australian
history, its memorials and musuems. ANZAC Day is celebrated in Australia
on 25 April every year and is the national day of remembrance for all those
who have served and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
(See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_Day)

In recognition of this significance the Australian Federal Government
Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) has given permission for the Wireless
Institute of Australia (WIA) to use the ANZAC name in special event
amateur call signs.

Southern Electronics Group (SEG) in Albany Western Australia has been
granted permission to use a special event call sign VI6ANZAC over the
weekend of the Albany commemorative events. SEG will be the first club in
Western Australia and the second club in Australia to be granted use of an
ANZAC Centenary Special Event callsign.

SEG will be restricted using the call sign to one 24 hour period over the
weekend, so all members will come together to maximise use of it on
Saturday 1 November 2014.

No matter what transpires, this is a great "once in a lifetime"
opportunity!

The special event call sign and QSL Card will be highly sought after by
VK amateurs and overseas amateurs alike as use of the ANZAC call sign
suffix is being highly regulated by WIA, The Australian Communications and
Media Authority (ACMA) and DVA.

VI6ANZAC will be active on all HF bands 160M - 10M, including the WARC
bands from 0001hrs (WST - +8 hours UTC) to 2359hrs WST. Digital modes will
also be operating throughout the period.

The operators of VI6ANZAC are looking forward to working as many VK and
overseas stations as they can and a special QSL card will be available for
those who make contact with the Special Event Station.

Please see our QRZ Page for further information and our real time logbook
entries. (http://qrz.com/db/vi6anzac)

Most guys ID themselves well. But some guys will go 10-15 minutes without
IDing in the heat of a pileup. And if you have a weird callsign pse QRS
and send it twice.

Thanks.

Please join us for a special webcast featuring our special guest, Glen
Popiel, KW5GP, author of the newly released ARRL publication, Arduino for
Ham Radio. This event will be webcast from W5KUB’s personal ham shack on
Thursday, October 30th at 8:00 PM CT (0100 UTC). Arduino devices are
powerful and inexpensive microcontrollers, and they are an easy way for ham
radio operators, students, and professionals to create devices that
interact with their environment using sensors and actuators. Glen will
discuss Arduino and its many applications. Glen will show and demonstrate
projects from his book. He may even bring some surprise projects not in the
book. Glen’s projects include:

Random Code Practice Generator

CW Beacon and Foxhunt Keyer

Fan Speed Controller

Digital Compass

Weather Station

RF Probe with LED Bar Graph

Solar Battery Charge Monitor

On-Air Indicator

Talking SWR Meter

Talking GPS/UTC Time/Grid Square Indicator

Iambic Keyer

Waveform Generator

PS/2 CW Keyboard

Field Day Satellite Tracker

Azimuth/Elevation Rotator Controller

CW Decoder

Lightning Detector

CDE/Hy-Gain Rotator Controllers

To join the webcast go to http://W5KUB.com/ where the fun begins! For the
first time, there will be a telephone line for viewers to join the webcast.
Viewers can ask questions or discuss their own Arduino projects. During the
live webcast, viewers can chat with us or other ham radio operators from
around the world.

Viewers can win prizes, including autographed Arduino for Ham Radio books
and some Arduino items donated by Glen Popiel. To be eligible for prizes,
you must have a registered chat room login account on W5KUB.COM. If you
don’t already have a login, go to “W5KUB” and click on “Live Events and
Chat Room” where you can either log in or set up a new user account. This
year over $10,000 in prizes have been awarded to viewers of our webcast! Of
course, no purchase is necessary to win a prize because we don’t sell
anything!! W5KUB is not affiliated with any products or companies.

Following Arduino, our guest will be John Amodeo, NN6JA, Producer of ABC’s
hit TV show Last Man Standing featuring Tim Allen. John will provide an
update of the recent K6H Special Event.

Also, please help spread the word by posting this announcement in your
