I beg to difffer on the G#XXX/HI9 method of station identification as
pointed out in the licence info. The IARU (ITU) now specifiy that the country identifier go at the first of the call.....not at the last. This is not just for us CW ops, it's 'da law'. Otherwise a good site. Walt is afraid of the dreaded diseases, try Asia mate. We make HI look TAME! 73 Bob 9V1GO |

Yes, we have noticed that the USA increasingly makes its own laws and disregards all international agreements. It used to be only countries like China, North Korea and Albania that behaved like that ... but not any more. Stop jumping the fence, Walter. First you beat up the RSGB (a radio club) and then you approve of the IAR Who (another radio club), run by the same guys who run another radio club you don't approve of.... There is no deep, global, political motive behind the fact that my license was issued by the FCC and IARU "rules" don't apply. For that matter, IARU rules don't apply to anybody, anywhere. The IARU has no enforcement power, so it's asinine for them to even make "rules". Not to mention that if they can't find anything more important to do than worry about a portable prefix being used on the front or the rear of a amateur call sign, they should close up shop because they're as useless as the RSGB and the ARRL put together. PREFIX/CALLSIGN was invented by hams. Commonly known as the HERO/ZERO phenomenon. Six ZERO's go to HERO island, and they're so worried that if they sign ZERO/HERO nobody will listen long enuff to hear the HERO part, so they invented HERO/ZERO. Has nothing to do with the IAR Who. It's just a byproduct of the childish pecking order/post card game that we so dearly love to play. 73, Jim KH2D |
How about correcting the date on your computer...

Then you should go post it in rec.radio.amateur.world.politics maybe. I don't know about anybody else, but I never check this newsgroup for important world political matters.... My comments were directed at our friend in 9V1 land who said the IARU is now dictating proper use of portable prefixes. And then you misdirected it as politics I guess. IARU provides guidance on what a " gentleman" ought to observe. f ex: In virtually all countries outside USA the bandplan is observed on the basis of " gentlemens agreement " PREFIX/CALLSIGN was invented by hams. Nonsense. |

They are responding to the USA stations on 7.205 who are calling "CQ Contest 7005". Hey, if I wanted to see a tennis match, I'd watch Kournikova play Sharapova. Preferably in the shower. 73 .... I have been to Singapore and I thought it was a singularly hygienic
place. (Certainly when compared to Indonesia, which was my previous port of call!) The trains ran on time in Nazi Germany too mate! One of the highest per capita rates of execution in the world, no trial by jury, no due process, very well disguised racism, founder Lee family run the government controlled businesses, more and more but have to get out before saying it. May be "the law" in beautiful 9V1 land, but the FCC makes the only laws we worry about over here... Sorry, meant to say international regulation, yanks are above all that after all : -). IARP specifies the same XX/XX and it is issued by Newington on behalf of the IARU for the Americas. Oh well, xenophobia is not contagious I hope. Bob |

What makes you stay in a place like this? Just curious. Peter Lemken DF5JT Berlin -- Games vs. Reality on Slashdot: "For me its America's Army. I'm watching the nightly news of Marines clearing houses in Fallujah and thinking to myself "Why don't they RPG that house first, then throw in flash bangs and frag nades before kicking that door in?"" |
What makes you stay in a place like this? Just curious. Not staying mate, taking the money and running.....two year sentence is finished. It is a good DX location, once you get the ticket which is not an easy chore. There is no 9V/XXX and nobody gets a license unless you are a resident. Have to sign the official secrets act, get station inspected, and jump through a few more hoops. Streets are safe, people are happy (although they are getting stealth taxed worse than in Europe), no social security, no job....you're dead. No money, you will wish you were dead. Anyway, out of here and off to a more chaotic place I am sure. Bob |
