CQ WW CW - so far
 

Just to tell my story.
I was working in CQ WW CW with only 60W RF out and magnetic loop only
1.2meters in diameter and only 6m up the ground on my balcony in vertical
polarization. I am surrounded with buildings.
I worked HC8N and many other DX stations mostly on 40m (23.00-01.30 UTC
26/27.11.2005).
I worked many USA stations.
I wasn't all the time in contest (only few hours) but during that time
conditions were great.

Yes indeed I shazre your opinion.
It is not abnormal with such an antenna (like with a dipole) to work the
strongest or most active OM and contest teams, even worldwide.
The problem is that too many OMs use linear what denatures somewhat the
hobby and reduce much the opportunity of 100W users (and low powers) to work
the same stations. It is a pity and worsening with years (I am OT now).

It seems that many DX addicts or CQ WWW addicts work with dipole or
multiband antenna not much directionnal and use a linear to balance their
poor performance. It is far to be the best solution for many reasons.
But my objective is not to initiate a controversy to which I will not
participate.

On the other side you have all beamers working at 80 to 200W max. (no need
much) and that work their DX stations easy in a couple of calls and who
respect very well the ham spirit and the others OM the QRG.

Your post is not useless and ARRL's QST already highlighted performance of
"normal" power stations (OM using simple dipole at 100 W PEP) to convince
more OMs to reduce a bit their linear when it is not mandatory (bad
propagation only or really a need of comfort in specific traffics,
emergency, etc).
