Best CQ ever answered?

Mine just happened on 17m: VU4BH

Martti seems to be there to do a ham demo for local representatives and is
active for one *hour* only.

Wow. #301 in CW for me, with the three last new ones worked within one week,
all with 100W and a vertical.

A very dear friend (now SK) swore this is true:

CQ CQ CQ - Beaming The Middle East From W6xx?

W6xx? here is JY1

W6xx? -- JY1 Good evening. Name here is Bill. How did you get such a fancy
call sign?

JY1 -- It helps when you are King!!

JY1 of course was his Majesty King Hussein I of Jordan

Knowing Bill -- might be urban legend -- but a good story
----------------------------------------------------------------
One of my CQ's was answered by a Hang Glider Mobile on 10M.
Another from a John Deere tractor mobile plowing a Kansas field.
Have both QSL cards.

That's going to be hard to beat! (congratulations, and good luck to
Martti!)

One Sunday, I'd been helping N4ZZ (now K4WX) with some RFI issues. We'd
licked them; Don wanted to hear for himself, and to thank the neighbor
for his patience. So he asked me to do some transmitting on 20 while he
walked next door.

Not wanting to just say "TEST TEST TEST TEST" over and over again on a
crowded band, I decided to call CQ.

"W9WI, this is KF6BL/T5 in Mogadishu"

Almost fell out of the chair.

So which was your second-best one, Peter...? :-)

Last time I had a new country answer a CQ was over a decade
ago and about 130 countries ago - a GJ... come to think of
it, that was one of the last times I called CQ anyway.

Scott Townley October 4th 03 12:28 AM

Mine's probably not terribly exotic, but got me going.
Last month, on 20m CW long-path, on a *completely* dead band, I got a
response from Christian 5X1CW. This was from my mobile setup.
I e-mailed him that day to make sure someone wasn't pulling my leg :-)

I was once done with a qso, keeping the rx running at low volume. Couple of
minutes later I heard "QRL?" and with good conscience I keyed "NO". He came
back with "NO DE CY0NSM UR 5NN".

Nice one.

Reminds me of when I sent "599 loud in TX" to some DX station,
who replied "Tnx Loud".
