Hello Dr OM

please help me out publishing in the DX Reflectors the following
Early Morning of October 2003 at 10 AM 3C0V DX stopped for some bad
reasons and they got a serious warning not to use any of their Radios
,The Crew are fine The reason still unknown!!! But it is a serious one
I believe that. Sorry Guys hope the Operators will leave safely from
the Island. since yesterday morning till this moment 9:31 UTC the
5th of October there is no signal saying when they will be released out
and go back to EU I spoke to Elmo EA5BYP one of the operators and he
mentioned that the situation is too bad
.. Gaby OD5NJ Pilot of 3C0V
Thanks in advance

Barry K October 6th 03 06:49 PM

Sounds like they got the boot off the air, and out of the country?
WHich brings up the question - was this an authorized operation in the
first place, or another 7O1YGF?

It seems like these guys have more to worry about than DXCC documentation.
Here's the latest via Bernie, W3UR:

"I just received word from OD5NJ, Gaby, who is the pilot station for 3C0V.
Gaby received a 10 second phone call from EA5BYP, Elmo, who reported "that
the military soldiers allowed only the three operators to go back to Spain".
There are four team members and it seems that DJ9ZB, Franz; EA5FO, Victor;
and EA5YN, Vicente; were released. It appears that Elmo will be remaining on
the island as the phone call was cut off.

I don't know how the guys were being sent back home (via plane or boat). If
we get anymore details I will pass them on. Gaby has asked that this be
forwarded to all DXers (mailing lists, etc.). So by all means fell free to
forward this on."

Without more info, it's hard to guess what happened. Perhaps the military on
Annobon just freaked out at 4 Europeans operating radios and generators
24/7. The idea/purpose of a dxpedition is pretty alien to non-DXers. There
have been recent coups in Sao Tome and Guinea-Bissau, so maybe the military
are a bit jittery. From the description above, this sounds decidedly
serious. I hope that Elmo gets off the island safely soon.

Anything new on these guys? They have some serious problems and we
want to hear of their safe return to civilization. Does their
operation have a website that's posting updates? All we can find is
contest/DX info, which is pretty irrelevant given their last known
status report. GL guys!
