VR6 prefix question

Does anyone know off hand what year the prefix for
Pitcairn Island changed from VR6 to VP6? Or, for
that matter, where can I find general reference material
for questions of this sort. (eg. old dx callbooks).

Thanks,

Steve WQ5N

Keyboard In The Wilderness January 7th 04 04:05 PM

From the May 1998 ARRL Letter On-Line --- URL:
http://www.arrl.org/arrlletter/98/980529/#pitcairn

New prefix for Pitcairn: The new prefix for Pitcairn Island in the South
Pacific is VP6. The British possession changed its call sign prefix from VR6
to VP6 on May 1 (1998). Call sign suffixes will remain the same. As part of
the reversion of Hong Kong to China, the British government also ceded the
international ITU prefix block, VRA-VRZ, to China. Old timers may recall
that VP6 used to belong to Barbadoes before it became independent.
