Nah, it's not pointless, Walter. The point is to make some $$$.
It's a commercial ventu

"The W7DXX Remote Base System is A CLOSED SYSTEM FOR MEMBERS ONLY. To
become a Member, you are asked to send a copy of your license
authority and donate $75 annually to help offset expenses."

It's questionable due to the following FCC regulation which applies to
amateur radio:

§97.113 Prohibited transmissions.

(a) No amateur station shall transmit:

(2) Communications for hire or for material compensation, direct or
indirect, paid or promised, except as otherwise provided in these
rules;

("Otherwise provided in these rules" does not include a clause for
selling time using your radio to other amateurs.)

But no worries. The FCC doesn't question much of anything anymore.
What is pointless is making "rules" when the people who are supposed
to be following them never bother to read them, and the people who
make them don't bother to enforce them.

Grab your VISA card, hit that PAYPAL page, and YOU can be Why Eye

Of course they do. Of course, now that their primary function is serving
as the Christian Taliban Ministry for Morality, they don't have time for
such triviality as enforcing the actual rules or perhaps even protecting
the legitimate spectrum users from interference. Gotta keep those tits
away from TV. It's hard work.
