I finally found my old relay box used for keying my amp. I did not find the
paper sheet that came with it showing the connections. Three connections must be made, but there are five ports. I have hooked it up in what I consider to be the logical way, but my radio immediately returns to receive when keyed. I seem to remember a trick (alternate hook up) but do not wish to damage the radio via experimenting. I'm kind of goofy these days due to medications, so I don't trust myself to make the connections by intuition. I'm using an Ameritron AL-80A amplifier and a Yaesu FT-890/AT rig. If someone could make a .jpg of this manual and email it to me via , I would appreciate it very, very much. Thanks. Ed Cregger |

Relay box marked "TX" goes to amp relay terminal that keys the amp. Relay box "red" cable connects to 13.8vdc on rig, "Blue" cable connects to PPT line on rig. Hope this helps? Rich WA2RQY/4 |

Rich WA2RQY/4 -------------- That is how I have it hooked up and is what isn't working. Thanks. Ed, NM2K Some radios like the FT-757GX have a "Linear switch" on the back that needs to be OFF on a non qsk amp. It is really a simple device, it needs 13.8 volts to activate the relay, a ptt line sends this 13.8vdc to that internal relay, causing it to close thus closing the relay line to the amp. If these situations are satisfied, it should work unless a wire is open, relay coil bad, etc! Does the amp key up if you short out the relay line terminal on the back of the amp? I had a small microswitch in a cassette box with a wire coming out. This wire had a RCA male plug & I used it to test all my amps without even connecting it to a transceiver. GL..... Rich WA2RQY/4 |

If I remember correctly the switch on the FT 890 is internal. Do you have
your Manual? Look through the manual it will tell you where the switch is. -- George Folse K5WWO "Ed Cregger" wrote in message ... "wa2rqy" wrote in message ... Look through the manual it will tell you where the switch is. -- George Folse K5WWO --------------- The manual is here "somewhere". I haven't seen it since we moved from NJ to GA over ten years ago, though I do not doubt that it made it here with us. I was running this combo a few years ago and I do not remember resetting a switch inside of the rig. Since your post, I have received a jpg of the original manual for the FRB-757 and that has irrefutably answered all my questions. Thanks to everyone for your help. This has been a very pleasant exchange/experience. Ed, NM2K -------------- |
