Problem with Ten Tec 1340 qrp

Just got a TT 1340 40M qrp rig and cant seem to get it to tune, swr is way
up and there seems to be lots of oscillation going on in the rig. Power out
is about 5 watts and the reflected power is just as high.
Both long wire antennas tune fine with all my other rigs, except the 1340.
Any comments?
Thanks......Gil

Have you tried calling Ten Tec? They were fairly helpful in getting my
1320 going.

Also, you might look at this guy's pages:
http://www.io.com/~n5fc/tt1340.html

His 1340 was unstable into a long wire; stable when he switched to a
balanced antenna. Maybe you just need a different antenna. (I'm
running my 1320 into a multiband dipole, tuned through a tuner, and
have no problem with swr.)

Hi Gil,

VSWR is a function of the load, not the TX . Have you tried a 50 Ohm dummy
load? Next try an antenna that has a native 50 Ohm impedance- that is one
that does not require a tuner. If it appears to have a hi VSWR, then indeed
the rig's PA may be putting out spurs on freqs other than the desired
frequency. At these spurious frequencies, the antenna will have a hi VSWR
and thus your readings.
