Do you see the word "moderated" in the name of the group?

Many, if not most, moderated newsgroups do not have the word "moderated"
in the name.

Still, this group is not moderated.

After the 'quality' of the replies you've recieved, isn't it obvious?

Oh? Can you name a few, please?

Always looking to learn...

My news provider carries 33,766 newsgroups. Of those, 4,986 are
moderated. Of the moderated groups, only 125 have the word "moderated"
in the group name.

Should I list the other 4,861 here, or email you the list?

Always looking to learn...

And I'd be glad to oblige you.

An interesting sidelight which I just discovered is that 6 groups with
the word "moderated" in their names are actually unmoderated.

What your provider (or any other particular news server) carries is meaningless.
Many servers carry locally created groups for private purposes, that are not
distributed acroos the USEnet hierarchy. I have a dozen or so on my own news
servers at work.

Email would be fine then. Thanks.

Probably because no one's willing to do the work any more.

Just off the top of my head I can think of one very tightly moderated
group that is carried on every news server I have ever come across....

Too bad, because if someone was willing, your ass would be the first
to get dumped. troll

No troll at all. This is a problem for numerous groups -- not just USEnet, but
also Google Groups. One specific example is rec.autos.sport.f1 moderated. It has
a moderation group in name only -- just try getting a response from them, or
approval as a new poster -- which is why the group has withered away to no
appreciable traffic. I'm sure you can find others in a similar state.
