alinco DX-70t transmitter problem
I have a alinco DX-70T that got indirectly hit with some lightning, It wasn't disconnected during a lightning storm and the antenna was large enough it picked up enough static electricity out of the air from the lightning that it fried something in the radio. So the radio was still in warranty so I sent it in to get it fixed and I was told there was a small SMT diode that was zapped. So they fixed that and sent it back to me. At the time i was only operating on 160,80,40 and so i didn't really check it out on the other bands, but it appeared to work great on those bands. Later on, once the warranty was good and expired i started branching out into 20,17,15,12 meters only to discover it doesn't work on them. It appears to receive just fine, but the transmitter goes crazy. To explain it does the following: without any good test equipment the following description is the best i can do. on 17m sometimes it will appear to work fine, but during transmitting SSB, the display will blank out the frequency until I unkey and it will quit transmitting, on 15 and 12 the best i can describe it is it must not be putting out a 50Ohm load, I hooked it up to a automatic tuner that I verified worked on the antenna and the frequency with another radio and with the alinco the tuner just tuned around forever and never could decide. Also with a swr bridge it would show to have a very high SWR and the SWR would fluctuate while transmitting on those frequencies. Once i get up to 10 Meters is appears to start working again, but i'm not too confident in it. Any ideas i'd love, i opened the thing looking for anything black and coudln't visually see anything "BAD" but there is soo much SMT stuff in there i dont have a clue where to start in this thing. -- Registered Linux User #346565 http://www.tblx.net WA5K |
