The Icom IC-7800 is already available (at almost US$11,000). Yaesu is
advertising the FT-DX9000. So what are we talking about? A Kilobuck Kenwood?

BTW, has anybody heard anything about an updated IC-706MkIIG or a
replacement for it?

If it is a hot Dayton weekend, by Sunday it is advisable to hold one's
breath when around some of the "high vapor pressure" attendees who
have not bathed since leaving home.
