High Sierra Sidekick Grounding

Does anyone have any operating experience on the antenna grounding aspect of
this antenna. The information booklet says that you should install a wide
flat strap attached from a screw adjacent to the coax connection to enable
correct operation and workable SWR figures. However when listening to other
operators of this antenna who are using the triple mag mount set up, which
is what I intend to do, they are saying that they appear to have no problems
and achieve more than reasonable SWR readings.

I am wondering if there is sufficient coupling and sheer area of metal body
available given all the insulation installations on todays modern cars and
wether comparisons have been made with a ground strap or not.

Any experiences, comments and installation descriptions on the above issue
would be very much appreciated,

Thanks

Martin.
