I have a TS450 that is coming back from the repair shop as costing more than
it is worth to have it fixed. I suffered some sort of indirect lightning
pulse, as it did not have an antenna connected and was turned off.

Doug-

Check to see if the power supply regulator might have failed as a result of the
strike, causing voltage in the order of 20 volts to damage the TS-450 the next
time it was turned on.

For service information, there may be a manual available at
http://www.mods.dk/. After you get to the Kenwwod page, look for the link to
Manuals. They limit you to two manual downloads per day, and failed attempts
count.

You also might try a different repair shop.
