Today we are going to be talking about the TYT Quad Band Transceiver, the
TH-9800. This radio is a clone of the Yaesu FT-8900 but at about $180-200
cheaper! By clone, I am this thing LOOKS exactly like the FT-8900 with the
exception of the brand name. Specifications With over 800 Alphanumeric
Memory channels, you will never run out of memory channels. If you do, then
you go to a lot more places than I do with my radio. One of the things that

I have been a ham for over 40 years and the TYT 9800 is the biggest
piece of junk I have ever seen for a ham FM transceiver.

I bought one and it lasted about a year, bought another,and it did not
even last that long. Finally boght the Yeasu quad bander and am very
happy with it. It looks good on paper, but that is it. Too many minor
things with it, plus they do not last.

I have one of the 220 MHz TYT rigs and it seems ok, but the power output
is only about 2/3 of what it should be . Three others in the area have
the same low output power. This is measured with different Bird and
other comercial 2 way radio meters and not ham quality meters.
