Motorola UHF Mobiles Advice
 

I purchased a Motorola Maxtrac Model #D44LRA77A5DK and a Radius Model
#D44MJA77A3CK. Both are UHF 40 watt radios mid split.

I have tried programming them and they accepted the programming,
however, when I transmit, the watt meter goes to full power for a second
or two and then drops back where it does not read anything at all.
However, I can still detect the presence of a signal on my service
monitor (the signal is off frequency).

It is almost like it is looking for some sort of ACK signal from a
trunking system or something like that.

I have played around with the various parameters in the programming
including simplex channels, repeater splits, etc.

I let a friend of mine look at them and he is pretty much up on Motorola
equipment, especially the mobiles and he cannot figure these out.

Anyone with any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

I see three possibilities here. First, the radio has a flaky VCO.

Second, you've got frequencies in there that exceed the rated band
limits of the logic board's initialization, and the microcontroller is
throwing a fit because of it.

Third: The radios have some sort of special firmware.

Exactly my point. VHF or UHF trunking systems do exist. Does the
radio give any kind of error tone when you try to transmit?

Anyone with any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Pretty much impossible to troubleshoot via Usenet and E-mail. I'd
have to have them here in the lab to do anything with them.
