Wierd QSB effect on 6m recorded

Last night I heard a strange effect on a 6m beacon some
81 miles away. It sounded like a bad antenna connection
or AGC pumping. I tried everything from bypassing SWR
meters and coax switches, turning off my AGC, using
differant antennas, no help.

I asked a nearby station if he heard the QSB - nope!

Today, without changing anything, the QSB is gone.

If you have a mp3 player (who doesn't?) and want to d/l
a 939 kb file, you can hear a recording of the "mystery"
QSB effect I was hearing last night. It's at:

Thanks for everybody's help!

Ken,

Perhaps your radio may be getting de-sensed? Depending on how close the
source is, your radio may hear it, but not your friend's. Maybe the kid next
door is using a 49 MHz RC car?

Keith Little

Sounds like lightning scatter.
Any storms around?

Yep! I sent similar postings to various lists and the file
has been picked over rather intensely. It has been noted
that the noise floor was constant and the rise/fall time
of the signal was instantanious.

Looks like it was lightning enhancement. Good 'ol
6 - always ready for a prank to our ears!

Very big thunderheads will spill electrons into the ionosphere,
(via "sprites") and thus might also cause some Es like openings.

Six is fun, you get just about any possible kind of propagation.
