What part was destroyed in the final? Did the tank coil melt?

One word of caution. After using it for months my child bride found the
impedence of her Butternut had changed after a hard rain and readjusted
her
tuner to compensate. A tad later she found a weak station she wanted to
contact and turned on her amplifier. A few moments into the QSO the SWR
went
nuts and she fried a final. Dropping power she found that the tuner
settings
were again back to normal. We continued to use the 'nut for several weeks
then sold it without the problem reoccuring.

I can only guess that the capacitors on the 'nut had filled with rain,
changing the antenna impedence, then dried out when a KW was applied.
YMMV
