When it was time to install the mobile I couldn't find a convenient feedthrough. I'm both mobility- and eyesight-limited and can no longer do all the complicated automotive wiring that I used to do to earn ham radio spending money in my younger days. I took it to the best 2-Way Radio installaton place in Portland and paid them a bunch of bucks to do that part of the install. I've never regretted it. They hooked up the under-hood stuff per my directions and I did the in-car radio and antenna hook-up myself. -- 73 de K2ASP - Phil Kane From a Clearing in the Silicon Forest Beaverton (Washington County) Oregon |

Any information would be appreciated Tnx John The way we did it when I worked at a Motorola 2-way shop (70's) was to find a spot on the firewall that was clear from the outside (engine compartment) and inside (passenger cabin). Drill a 1" hole using a hole saw. Install a 1" rubber grommet into the hole. Run wires through the hole in the grommet. On the newer generation of autos, you might have to search a bit to find the best spot. The spot I always went for was on the driver's side, to the left of the brake pedal. Somewhere below the master cylinder. -- Dave M MasonDG44 at comcast dot net (Just subsitute the appropriate characters in the address) Never take a laxative and a sleeping pill at the same time!! |

It usually has a LOT of rubber between the wire bundle and the firewall metal. I "Carefully" stick a small sharp probe through the rubber, being cautious not to damage the wire bundle, and then check the other side visually to see how it looks. Then I remove the probe and using a sharp knife blade turn that hole into a small slit. I can then pass my #14 DC wiring, and sometimes a small coax through this slit. Ed K7AAT |

hello john,
Find the hood release cable and run the power cables along that route. Most cars the hood cable runs past the car battery. 73 jimbo |
