Default Kenwood TH-215A and TH-205A keypad question

Hello All,
I have 2 older Kenwood HTs that have what I am calling degrated
keypads. Some of the buttons are very hard to push or you have to mess
with them to make them work. Does anyone have any suggestions on
"reviving" the keypads or is this just a part of being old?

Thanks
-Ryan

I've been able to 'revive' some keypads by pulling the keypads out (a
mission in itself in a HT!) and disassembling, and then using a toothbrush
and meth's or probably better yet a contact cleaner on the PCB tracks (I'm
assuming here that it's the sort of keypad which has the switch traces on a
PCB and a small conductive 'button' within the rubber membrane that goes
over the PCB. Also clean those 'buttons'; I've used a soft cloth with
alcohol or it they're really dirty a brush again. I've always erred on the
side of caution and not gone to town on the bits in case I scratch away any
protective layers and hasten the corrosion that I'm trying to get rid of.

Cheers.

Ken
