Passed my Tech Exam today. Only missed one question.

No, You missed another ten questions,

No I didn't take the code test. You're absolutely no help. You just
try and stir the pot. If you have so much knowledge why don't you share
it with the group instead of just causing trouble.

the CW questions, but since the
Tech license is dumbed down you weren't tested on them.

I took the test the government of my country prescribed I take. If you
don't like it call the FCC. I've long since tired of your whining.

Don't know which HT to recommend,

Most people I hang with bought either the Icom IC-T90 or the Kenwood TH-F6A.

Thanks for the advice. I already went with Yaseu. Got a good deal on
it. Listening to it right now. I'm picking up 12 repeaters on the duck
antenna. Complicated to figure out to begin with but pretty cool. It
even picks up 800 MHz police and am air. I'm in hog heaven.

Passed my Tech Exam today. Only missed one question. Am looking at
HTs. I am considering an IC -T7H from ICOM and a YAESU FT-60R. Leaning
towards the Yaesu. Any thoughts ideas or suggestions?

First... why an HT? Why not a mobile? Worry about an HT later. You wont get
far on an HT.

Second, why not study for the code. Even thought 5 WPM is SO rough (snicker)
you should at least try!

No one ever said I wasn't going to study for the code. I would like to
enjoy the privileges I just earned in the mean time. Why does
everything have to do with code? There are lots of other aspects to the
hobby. No one ever says why not try packet radio or SSTV? They always
ask about code. I'd like to try everything but I got to start
somewhere. I haven't even got my call letters from the FCC yet.

On UHF, try ATV (i.e. fast scan TV, which shows real time motion). Try
VHF/UHF sideband. During contests there's quite a bit of activity. During
band openings, you can work thousands of miles. There's still some
enthusiasts doing AM on VHF in some areas. We have some FM simplex nets in
our area that are fun.

You can even try code on VHF/UHF without having taken the code test. Lots
of interesting things crop up.

Thanks Dee,

I'm very interested in 6 meters sideband. I've got the plans to convert
a CB to 6 meters. I just need to find a CB with a board in it that will
work. I'd like to try code on VHF too. That'd be great practice. My
licence can't get here fast enough.

Amazing; A new ham is excited about getting his ticket and these clowns
get into his face about CW.

Next we will hear more griping about the hobby dying. No wonder. Just
read these posts, who would want to be associated with such clowns. I am
always amazed these clowns are so familiar with CB model numbers etc.

Don't know which HT to recommend, but a lot of No-codes like the
Cobra 148GTL for HF.
