You might want to just forget about CB radio and concentrate on Amateur Radio. Get your General Class License and then you will find lot's of people to talk to.

The CB radio is pretty much hit or miss.

For the most part, it is only used by people who uses it for general communications - such as truck drivers that uses it to talk to each other and to talk to whom ever at the terminals.

You don't even hear anyone asking for directions anymore, or for a good place to eat because the cell phone has taken over.

Non truck drivers are usually viewed as a nuisance and the skip is so bad that you cannot carry on a decent conversation anymore - unless you are just a couple of miles away..

There is no intelligent conversations anymore on the CB radio.
Most truck drivers will tell you that they just use it for work only and they do not rag chew anymore.....

About the closeset thing you will find to the old CB radio is two meters ( 145 - 148 MHz ) - if you can find an active repeater... This allows for local communications day or night.
