Could someone explain to me the difference between a magnetic field and an
electrical field? I am studying for a ham license and I am having difficulty with these 2 terms. Thanks |
A magnetic field is the field surrounding a magnet.
An electric field is the field produced by a voltage difference. (Think "Static Electricity" and how it attracts dust.) A changing magnetic field produces an electric field. A changing electric field produces a magnetic field. Electromagnetic radiation (Light, Radio Waves) consists of energy disturbances that continually switch back and forth between electric and magnetic fields. (The collapse of the electric field produces a magnetic field. The collapse of the magnetic field produces an electric field.) That's about as good as it gets without doing the math.
