He's written about it in his editorials, years (maybe even decades
now) ago. It was long enough ago that it's not tainted by his
more recent "follow any conspiracy" trend, though who knows if
he really knows. For that matter, there have been more recent
books and such explaining what might have happened to Amelia,
so they may in fact tell the same story Wayne wrote about years
ago.

His father was long connected with civil aviation (actually, I
think he started in military aviation, but that was not a career),
and so perhaps that put Wayne in contact with people who had a better
idea, or maybe it attracted people who had a better idea. Wayne's
father wrote an ongoing series for 73 around 1973 about his early
days in aviation, kind of a column but telling it in sequential order.
I found it interesting.
