RTTY on the QRP freq???why???
 

Just was starting to get interested in QRP. Been making many contacts
with 1/2 watt on 7040 KHz. But lately it has been worthless due to all
the QRM from RTTY stations operating very close to 7040. Why? Why are
all the RTTY people meeting so close to 7040 when there is so much free
space in around 7090 area?

Because 7030-7040 is where all the European digital stuff lives. I worked
from VK2 to EA this morning, psk31, 7038khz, 10w about 16243km this morning
before the path closed.

Because 7090 is chock full of phone nets and European DX.

Because 7040 kHz is the "RTTY DX" frequency in the ARRL bandplan.

Whoever designated 7040 kHz as a QRP frequency didn't look at the ARRL band
plan.

Have heard suggestions to move the QRP Calling frequency to 7030 kHz
But suspect the QRP Amateur Radio Club International should do that URL:

Outside of the America's the 40 meter band is, with few exceptions, 7.0-7.1
mHz. Some countries limit their class B operators to 7.000-7.050 mHz, and
they have no choice but to work digital on 7040.

The U.S. FCC band plans and "gentelman's agreements" shortchange foreign
hams on 80 and 40 meters.
