Mounting mobile control head
Can anyone think of why the control head of a mobile dual band (Yaesu 7800R)
should not be mounted near (actually slightly overlapping) airconditioning vents? Thanks, Everett KG6YEB |
I have a Yaesu 7800R -- really don't know why the head should not be mounted
near or overlapping A/C ducts, unless there is a problem with cold air blowing directly on the rig. However, mine worked just fine in very cold weather so temp does not seem to be a problem. You may be interested in how I mounted mine -- I went to an auto junk yard and found a junked vehicle like mine (89 Nissan pickup). I got the ashtray from the wrecked truck. Pulled out my ashtray, wrapped it in plastic, and stuck it under the seat. Then, I took the junkyard ashtray -- mounted the mount for the control head onto the ashtray by drilling a couple of holes in the face of the ashtray to secure the mount -- drilled a large hole in the back end of the ashtray through which to route the cables. The mobile control head is slightly wider than the ashtray but the difference really does not show. By routing the cables out the rear of the ashtray, the cables drop down with the rest of the vehicle wiring and are readilly accessible. By keeping my original ashtray intact, I can restore the vehicle to original condition by simply removing the rig. -- ----- Joe S. "Everett" wrote in message ... Very clever trick.
