Does anyone know anything about these? I can't seem to turn much up on Google
about these. I am not sure I was going to bid on it, since it's already at $280
with 5 days left.

Vinnie

What would ten 6LB6's cost when this unit needs to be retubed?

Something to consider!

Pete

I just wanted to know a little history about it. He is selling it with a second
set of tubes. But I am glad you told me anyway. Seems to have gotten alot of
lookups and is on its way to being out of my price range.

Finicky, expensive tubes.

World Radio Labs / Galaxy of Council Bluffs, IA (later purchased by HyGain
in Lincoln, NE) existed until the late-1970s.

Since this unit uses ten (10) - 6LB6 sweep tubes it is not a practical
amplifier -- since these TV sweep tubes are no longer produced. Might be a
nice project to convert it to a couple of Russian triodes. I would sell the
tubes for the $$

Poor amp, runs about a dozen old TV sweep tubes with all the problems that come
with them! It was a joke when first built, and hasn't improved with age. You
can get a nice Heath SB200, SB220 or SB230 for equal or less money.

Some CBer will likely get this rag and hopefully blow it up first key-down.

hello
its junk, was junk when new,
age and todays price of sweep tubes do not make it better

seller stating the amp is rare
you do not want a rare amp
you want a common as dirt amp
that you will have no problems finding parts or new tubes for

35 years ago replacing sweep tubes was cheep
use to be could go down to the drug store
buy new set of sweep tube finals
for a Drake or Swan transceiver with lunch money, not any more

tube sellers like Antique Electronics Supply
do not warranty sweep tubes
will not take back bum sweep tubes
if you do not know what you are doing
you can kill a set of sweep tubes in just a few min.

please note, you do not do not want to waste
your time and money on any amp that uses sweep tubes

also the 1,000 watt pep noted is the old
dc input, not 1,000 watts pep output
be lucky to see 500 watts key down cw
for a min or so, before the the glass over heats
and the plates start to warp

want a nice used amp save your money
look for a Heathkit SB 200 or even better a SB 220

there were also lots of good old amps made by
Drake, Hallicrafters, Gonset, Heathkit, Hammond, Hammarlund,

look for a amp that uses real rf power tubes
572B, 811A, 813, 3-400Z, 3-500Z, 4-400, ect
mid power, servicable used amps out there
built like tanks and just as tough
using real transmitting tubes

love WRL gear, have more than one Globe transmitter
but I would never buy this WRL amp

That's right Mac,
World Radio Laboratories Globe series are great transmitters.
I love the "Globe King."
The Galaxy 2000B was made for CBers that didn't know any better than to buy
it.
