All AM stations use _at least_ the required NRSC equalization, and
virtually all broadcast stations, AM, FM, or TV, use multiband audio
processing, which is in itself a kind of adaptive, dynamic equalization.

I just applied those techniques, suitably refined for a narrower
bandwidth, to my amateur radio station, after modifying my gear to
remove the somewhat ham-handed attempts of the manufacturers to
shape the audio.

With all good wishes,

There's an NRSC ''Mask'' which is used to keep the sidebands within
limits but no requirement to use any preemphasis, unlike the FM
standards.

That's bull****. Many, if not most, broadcast stations use no

And then they compress the hell out of it, and for AM overmodulate the
peaks for CB-style range enhancement. :)

TV standards also require preemphasis IIRC. But you're right about AM.
