Off topic .. what's the best reception portable am/fm for Camping...
 

Hi. I'm sorry if this is off topic here but I thought some of you would
know.

I'm looking for a small portable battery operated AM/FM radio to bring with
me on hunting/fishing trips, so I guess what I'm looking for is a radios
with a strong receiver to catch as many station as possible. I'm not looking
for better sound, just a basic radio I know any radio won't work if you
are too far away, but that won't be my case. with the radio I have now , I
can catch like 1 FM station whenb weather permits, and 4 or 5 AM
stations,... I would like to increase these numbers as much as possible..

Can you recommend a good brand/model please?

Because it is off topic.

I'm tired of newsgroups being cluttered with posts that belong elsewhere.
And most of the time it is because people can't be bothered finding
the most appropriate place to post.

There's a whole rec.radio.* hierarchy, yet you chose to post in one
about the building of amateur radio equipment. That doesn't say much.

Asking in the local newsgroup would actually be more on topic than
asking here.

Sorry Michael if I made you mad. I did say this was an OT... and I
personally don't think this place is " cluttered ". If someone here knows
a better newsgroup for me to ask, please let me know asap, as I did check,
but couldn't find a better newsgroup... I just thought you guys would know
better as you probably have a good knowledge of antennas and receivers...

And, it's not a STEENKIN chat room. The thousands of amateur radio
operators that follow this ng aren't following the postings on a
minute by minute basis.

What made the OP think that The Answer -- much less _any_ answer --
should be forthcoming in an hour or two? It's probably _days_ before a
majority of rrah participants read any individual post.

Now, with the selfish, whining followup by the OP to his own post, there
will be doubtless _far fewer_ , if any, followups by folks who might've
had a good recommendation (even tho' it's OT.)

This is the Amateur Radio "Homebrewing" focus group. So to bring your
request a bit more "on-topic", why not design and build your own radio
equipment? Think of the fun and sense of satisfaction you could get
from using a radio set that you have designed and built. It's
easy...we do it all the time.

For FM in remote areas you'll need an external antenna, like a
telescoping whip. For AM you most likely won't need an external
antenna, I've heard AM stations from a thousand or more miles away late
at night all snuggly in my sleeping bag.

Take a look at

colors.

Something like

never needs batteries and can charge up your cellphone at the price of
$50 and some elbow grease.

The Grundig/Eton brand has never disappointed me, you may want to try
rec.radio.shortwave as suggested for more in-depth suggestions.
