Anybody have any suggestions for commercially-available SMT ICs which
could be used to put together a physically-small compressor / speech
processor design? I'm thinking of something small enough to be
installed in-line with a standard 4-pin microphone plug, no more than
perhaps 3" long - or perhaps even installed inside a dynamic or
electret hand-mic housing. Low power (run off of the rig's 9 VDC
supply to the electret mic if possible).

Seems to me that it'd require a preamp stage (SMT fixed-gain
instrumentation amp would do?), an AGC/VCA arrangement, and an output
driver and attenuator.
