I've seen a couple of hams mount an SO239 through the top of a hard hat, glue aluminum foil connected to the shield side on the inner surface, and attach a 2m or 440 flexi-whip to the topside for use with their handheld. It apparently works pretty well, but it's not something I would choose to do. Shiny side out, Anton? I've also seen more than a few folks put a GPS antenna inside a hat or cap, so that the only thing showing is the lead down to the GPS. It takes _all_ kinds, as the saying runs. -- Why would burglars need to look for a back door when they can climb in through the Windows? -- Norman L. DeForest |

in the late seventies, i bought my first book on electronics. i bought
it because it was cheap, it was cheap because it came from the erstwhile russia. it was a really excellent book called 'entertaining electronics'. i really rocked. one of the more interesting stories was that of a man who went to his shrink saying that he was hearing voices in his head asking him to buy something or the other. after a while, he started reporting news, weather and sports! at this point, the shrink realised that this dude was actually able to hear radio broadcasts. they seem to be improving with age, literally. an investigation releaved that he had a recent tooth-capping done. the tooth-cap was slightly oxidised and the nerve-end formed a cats whiskers which was direclty pumping AM broadcasts into his nervous system! i don't know if the story was interesting, but it compelled me to read the entire chapter on holes and electrons. - farhan |
