Default IC Sockets

Are there any IC sockets (DIL) where the pins on the socket that go into the
PCB are more generously spaced than the IC pins themselves?

Well plcc sockets are sorta like that. For dips you'd have to use
a pc breadboard adaptor.

There is also the QIL or Quad-in-line format, where altenate pins are offset
into second rows. You would have to find a DIL to QIL adaptor/socket.

I guess it all depends on WHY you need wider pin spacings.

You can try using wirewrap sockets, and reform the leads to meet your
requirements ....

Ha, quite amazing, though wirewraps was obsolete technolgy.

Maybe I can bend the leads so that I end up wiith Quad In Line. Or whatever.

I've never used it for rf projects, but for digital it still works just fine
for prototyping. Assuming you still have a supply of chips that are dips.
thanks, John.

Are there any IC sockets, where the pins go outwards from the socket, rather
than downwards into the PCB?
