Signal-to-noise meter

On http://home.online.no/~la8ak/m23.htm I have mentioned a
signal-to-noise meter we used for antenna measurements in UK, suppose
it goes on 100kc/s IF with Racal RA17 or similar receiver, and
measures noise modulation on the carrier.
Since we measrued on constant carrier from other PTP-circuits it was a
steady carrier or pilot to measure, it would also work with AM
broacast stations, provided the IF filter is sharp enouth to cut the
modulation

Wonder if a similar construction can be found, but susing omewhat more
modern devices?
