DAB Receiver.
 
I have seen some DRM projects on the net, but none about how to homebrew
a FM/DAB receiver.
Is it such difficult to design and build one of them ?.
DAB receivers are now generally available in commercial form, so I think
there is also room for experimenters.

A discrete-component DAB receiver is not a project to be undertaken
lightly. On the other hand here in the UK, DAB receivers are now very
common in the stores due I believe to an outbreak of chip-sets by such
luminaries as Philips.

So Google for Philips/SAA3500/PDF and you should get a feeling for what
is involved.

To get an idea of what would be involved, do a Google
for the Philips SAA3500 chip-set. This my second reply as
the first seems to have disappeared into a newsgroup black
hole.

The truly hardcore would want to implement Eureka-147
themselves. Who needs those silly chipsets anyway? :-)

We have a mostly-functional DAB setup in Canada, using
Eureka-147 (same as you Europeans) on frequencies around
1.45 GHz (not at all like you Europeans). It works
if you live close enough to the transmitter (I bought
one of the little Perstel radios for the hell of it),
but is highly unadvertised.
