Default FT 480R fault - 147.000 MHz on TX

I've a FT 480R that has remained unused for at least two years.

Upon attempting to use it today on FM, it displays the TX frequency
as 147 MHz. (It is TXing at this freq as confirmed by external frequency
counter and dummy load.)

It is RXing quite normally on the simplex channels.

It goes to 147 MHz on TX irrespective of the mode - CW/SSB/FM and
irrespective of the RX frequency be it 144.300 or 145.500..

Oddly enough, it does obey the +/- 600 kHZ repeater shift instruction.

Any clues or experience of this problem?
