On my mic (serial #14785), they go like this:

1 - white
2 - black
3 - blue
4 - NC
5 - red
6 - brown
7 - braid
8 - NC (center pin)

As you can easily see, there doesn't appear to be any hard/fast rule to
the color scheme or to the number of conductors.
