Bob,

I believe that the microphone connector that you are looking for is Amphenol
MC3M (91-MC3M),
which is now manufactured by WPI (WirePro International at their Salem, NJ
manufacturing facility:
http://www.wpi-interconnect.com/salem.htm

The Series 80 & 91 connectors can be found on Page 17 of the WPI
Interconnect Resource Guide:
http://www.wpi-interconnect.com/Reso...ce%20Guide.pdf

The Amphenol / WPI connectors are available through the normal electrical
distributor channels:
Allied, Newark, Arrow and ECCO (Chicago)

Here are some sources, in addition to one listed above:

This web page (for the JT-30 microphone) also sells the 91-MC3M connector ($
16)

The Shure 55SH Series II is the current production model:

Shure does have the data sheets for its discontinued products on-line (great
resource)

Shure 55S, FAQ:
"I have an old 55S, but can't seem to determine what year it was
manufactured. Also, there seems to be a difference in models produced from
1951-1971 and those produced after 1971. What is the difference? When was
the line discontinued?"

1. There is no definitive way to determine the year of manufacture nor does
Shure offer that service.

2. There is no definitive list of the product differences over the years.

3. The model 55SH Series II is still made (current production model).

4. The model 55S was last sold in 1978 for $84; first sold in 1951 for $72.

5. A mic collector web site such as www.coolmicrophones.com may have more
information.

6. View discontinued mic data sheets at:
http://www.shure.com/datasheets/guid...continued.html

7. Shure does not offer opinions on the values of vintage microphones. Value
is determined by the collectors willing to buy the mic.

Thanks so much! I guess it's a currently available part. I looked at
the specs and this is one great microphone; I now have two of them. I
need to make up a cable for the new one.

Bob -

The audio response from the 55s is very flat from 150 Hz to 6 kHz which
provides
great reproduction for voice work .... which is also why Shure still makes
this classic after 50 years.

I forgot to give you the restoration pages for this microphone (Shure did
make a version in a gold finish) ..
Darren Pallen Productions is probably best known for this microphone and his
restoration work (using red and blue silk for inserts).

History of the Shure 55 series goes back to just before WW2 (photos from
various collections)

Ribbon microphone restoration (Larry King and David Letterman have them on
their talk show desks -
although an out of camera boom mic is usually used for audio pickup)
The late Jon R. Sank was the designer for many of the RCA ribbon mics
(highly prized).
