Silent Key

Charlie McCrystal GI6DCC, sadly passed away on Monday the 17thOctober
2011 following a short illness. Charlie showed a great love of many
things in life Family, Music and Amateur Radio. Private Cremation took
place at Roselawn Crematorium. Charlie was father to Karl MI3KAL,
brother of Eddie GI7FHZ and uncle to Paul MI6FHZ.

MORE LICENSE COURSES AT LOUGH ERNE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club is recruiting for a Foundation course and
invites all interested to the next Club meeting in the SHARE centre at
7.00 pm on Tuesday 1 November. The course itself will be over two
weekends, the last in November and first in December, with examination
and results on Sunday afternoon 3 December.

Recent courses and examinations produced 39 successes, 26 Foundation, 9
Intermediate and 4 Full Licence holders - and only one fail. Recently
licensed members have invigorated the Club. They include the new
Chairman, Tommy Mi0RVH. He did his Foundation in 2010 then Intermediate
and Full in June 2011.

Lough Erne ARC is also recruiting for another Intermediate course and
an Advanced examination in December or January. As usual, the newly
licensed will be presented with welcome certificates at the Lough Erne
Rally on Sunday 1 April 2012.

Cashota

MM0DHQ will be transmitting from Kilwinning Abbey, in Scotland as part
of CASHOTA (Castles and Stately Homes on the Air) on Tuesday 1st

Foyle and District Amateur Radio Rally

The Foyle and District Amateur Radio Club Rally takes place November
6th 2011 at the White Horse Hotel, 68 Clooney Road, Derry, BT47 3PA.
Doors open at 12 noon. The usual traders will be present and IRTS will

Shannon Basin Radio Club

The Shannon Basin Radio Club will be having a meeting on Friday the
28th October in Hannons Hotel, Roscommon at 20:30. All members are
asked to attend and non-members are welcome. Please see

DX News

Five operators will be active from Bhutan from 25 October until 1
November. During the CQ WW SSB Contest next weekend (29-30 October)
look for A52IR on 80m, A52PC on 40m, A52PP on 20m, A25AB on 15m and
A51B on 10m. Outside the contest times they will work other bands and
modes.

Bill N7OU is operating from the South Cook Islands until 7 November
using the callsign E51NOU. He then travels to the North Cook Islands
where he will stay until 22 November. As he will be using the same
callsign from both DXCC entities be careful with your logbook entries.

A group of 7 Italian amateurs will sign TU2T from the Ivory Coast from
27 October to 11 November. There has not been much activity from TU in
recent times so this is a good one to look out for. Direct QSLs go via
I2YSB and bureau cards go via IK2CIO.

Chris GM3WOJ will be activating ZK2V from the island of Niue in the
Pacific for the next few months. He will be joined by Keith GM4YXI
until the end of October and the call ZK2X will be used in the CQ WW
SSB Contest.

AubieSat-1 video

Auburn University's, USA, famous battle cry, 'War Eagle', will be heard
from space October 27 when it is transmitted to Earth from a
student-built amateur radio satellite known as AubieSat-1 After launch,
when the satellite comes over Auburn, Alabama, the team will send up a
command and if all is well AubieSat-1 will reply with 'War Eagle' in
Morse code. AubieSat-1 is designed to transmit with a power of about
800 milliwatts on a frequency of 437.475 MHz, plus or minus Doppler
correction [+/- 9 kHz]. The beacon signal, along with telemetry, will
be sent using A1A continuous wave Morse code at 20 words per minute.
Additional telemetry from the onboard science experiment will use CW
transmissions up to 60 WPM.

AMSAT to celebrate 50 years in space at symposium

The AMSAT-NA 2011 Space Symposium will be held on Friday, November 4-6
in San Jose, California. This year's Symposium coincides with the
celebration of the 50th anniversary of OSCAR 1, the first Amateur Radio
satellite.

Radio Club Argentino - 90th anniversary

The Radio Club Argentino (RCA), will be active as L90AA starting
October 21st through to the end of the month. Activity is to celebrate
the 90th anniversary of the RCA founded in 1921. The RCA is one of the
oldest amateur radio associations in the world, and was also one of the
founders of the IARU in 1925. Look for operations to be on all bands
using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. QSL via LU4AA, direct or by the
Bureau.
