/////////////////////////////////////////// Ham Radio Connects with Historic Ships Around the World: Posted: 04 Jun 2013 05:39 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/30262 BILLINGS -- The USS Pampanito, the USS Hornet and the USS North Carolina were just a few of the contacts made during Museum Ships Weekend. The Yellowstone Radio Club communicated with ham radio operators in San Francisco, Alameda, California and Wilmington, North Carolina over the weekend. A club in New Jersey organized the two-day event at the US Naval Reserve Training Center in Billings, that draws Ham Radio operators and clubs all over the world - with the goal of communicating with historic ships docked or at museums. "A lot of them are museum ships that are not navy ships," said Dennis Tulp, a ham radio operator with the Yellowstone Radio Club and a US Navy veteran. "They're anywhere from ore carriers, a lot them have been lost in the great lakes, every type of ship is represented." |
