There seemed to be a disconnect between daily sunspot numbers and
solar flux over the past reporting week (February 6-12), with the
average daily sunspot number rising 28 points to 184.3, and average
daily solar flux declining 8.5 points to 171.9. Perhaps this
reflects the general weakness in the energy and magnetic complexity
of recent sunspots. Many days we see a substantial number of
sunspots, but they don't produce much activity.

Rick Rodgers is all smiles now the Armidale and District Amateur Radio Club
has a new clubhouse. Stationed in the former rural fire service signal
room, the clubhouse gives members a base from which they can contact the
world. "It's great for us to have somewhere to house all our equipment," Mr
Rodgers said. He hopes the facility will help entice people to come and see
what ham radios are all about. "Getting your amateur radio licence is much
easier than it once was," he said. "With the new clubhouse we are now able
to conduct training, participate in radio sport competitions and host
community events."

Hams Help Out with St. Clair County During Winter Storm:

First responders and HAM radio operators across St. Clair County are
working together to ensure everyone stays safe. During the January 28
storm, cell phone service dropped out. 60 HAM radio operators are spread
out across the county to make sure that emergency operations can continue
as needed.
