Radio Amateurs of Canada would like to welcome David Gervais, VE6KD, as the
Deputy Director for the Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut region. RAC Alberta/NWT/NU Director, Ernest Clintberg, VE6EC/VE6ECK, appointed David as Deputy Director because he is dedicated to the betterment of the Amateur Radio Service, acts with integrity and is willing to serve others. David holds a Bachelor of Education degree and a journeyman’s ticke t in motor mechanics. He served as a public school teacher and has worked for the Workmen’s Compensation Board of Alberta and has also operated h is own business. Despite being retired for 20 years, David remains a teacher of those around him and he epitomizes the term “Elmer” in the Amateur Radio community. The fascinating world of Amateur Radio has intrigued David since he was very young and it continues to do so. He was thrilled to receive his first Amateur Radio licence in 1980 with the call sign VE6BMD. He achieved his Advanced licence in 1982 and became VE6KD about 10 years later. Two of his four children have shared his interest in the hobby and also two of his 14 grandchildren. His wife Therese has always been supportive of his hobby, generously hosting many of his colleagues whenever various radio activities happen at his QTH in Sturgeon County north of Edmonton. David very much enjoys the challenge of contests, especially the RAC Canada Day and Winter Contests, and he has hosted multi-multi stations for the last 15 years. He generously invites fellow Amateurs to participate, to bring their rigs and use his antennas. Photos of these antennas appear on QRZ under his VE6KD call sign. David also loves DXing, ragchewing and keeping skeds with friends he has made over the years – some of the m from 35 years ago through Morse Code. David has also been active as a certified Amateur Radio examiner for over 15 years. David belongs to several Amateur Radio groups including the North Central Amateur Radio Club (charter member) and the Quarter Century Amateur Radio Club, and he has been a member of Radio Amateurs of Canada since its inception. As Deputy Director for Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, he is committed to assisting the Director and will put his energy to promoting Radio Amateurs of Canada and advancing the Amateur Radio Service. *Ernest Clintberg, VE6EC/VE6ECK RAC Director for Alberta/NWT/NU* *Alan GriffinRAC MarCom Director* *wp.rac.ca* http://www.rac.ca/ 720 Belfast Road, #217 Ottawa, ON K1G 0Z5 613-244-4367, 1- 877-273-8304 |
